Cibo Matto - Summer/Fall Tour 1999

Cibo Matto fans received the long waited release of the band's second LP titled "Stereotype A" in June 1999. After headlining a series of Concerts in June, Cibo Matto played a series of shows at the Lilith Fair . A month on the road had taken the kinks out of the new material and the band executed near perfect sets. The band delivered fast and powerful sets at all of the Lilith Fair shows.

With the tour in full swing, the band continued to deliver more confident and high energy performances. Cibo Matto played a show in Denver on July 20th and another concert in Lawrence, Kansas on July 22th 1999. The Sean Lennon Band appeared and Timo was the opening act at those shows.

Cibo Matto went on tour opening for their friends "Luscious Jackson". Their schedule for this tour started on July 23, 1999 and ended on August 11, 1999. The band was totally kicking ass on this leg of the tour. They included simple costume accessories and simple stage props as part of the act during a couple of the recent shows. As an opening act they commanded encore performances in several cities.

Along the way all of their equipment was stolen along with the truck carrying their equipemnt. They canceled one show in Maryland as a result. Two nights later outfitted with everything they could beg, borrow, or steal (ooops wrong word), they went back out and continued the tour like gangbusters. Finally the last show of the Luscious Jackson tour was cancelled due to a labor strike at the scheduled venue.

Cibo Matto continued to tour as a headline act on a sizzling, hot concert tour. In September and October, the band zig zagged across the North American continent and returned to many of the cities they had played over the summer. Finally the band hit the west coast to play San Francisco and then in Southern California at the "Coachella Valley Art and Music Festival".

Die Hard fans reported that the shows were the best that Cibo Matto had performed yet. And the the band was only beginning to gather steam. From there they exited the country for a killer sold-out tour of Japan! Out on the road the best just kept getting better.

Returning from Japan, the band began a tour opening for Live. It was the challenging leg of the tour for Cibo Matto. Some of the venues were the largest that the band had yet to perform. The band was faced with learning to adapt to the acoustics of playing larger halls. While at the same time Live fans were being introduced to the music of Cibo Matto for the first time. The band faced an even bigger challenge as the powerhouse explosions of Duma Love were put on hold for the segement of the tour (Duma was home with his wife and new baby). Joining the band in November was special guest percussionist Japa Keenon (Sean Lennon band, Ben Lee band) temporarily replacing Duma.

Most fans prefer to see Cibo Matto as the headliner in small intimate settings with a longer set time. Due to some illness with the members of the band Live, a few of the shows were cancelled. Cibo Matto found other shows to schedule in the towns were the dates were cancelled. Despite some glitches, the band rose to the occasion and managed to garner some new fans from the Live audience.

Finally after six months of solid touring the band wound down the tour in November to take a short break.
